History of the professional fire brigade of Budapest 1870–2020

Abstract

The professional Hungarian Fire Brigade is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. The anniversary goes back to 1st February 1870, when the country’s first professional fire brigade started operation in the capital. The author presents the one and a half century history of the professional fire brigade of the capital, covering the circumstances of its establishment, describing the important stages of organisational and technical development. The historical overview also includes prominent personalities and memorable fire cases. The announcement is related to a presentation at a ceremonial conference held on 3rd February 2020 at the Ministry of Interior completed with rich photo material that cannot be presented here due to limited extent.
