Abstract

Criminal profiling is surrounded by misconceptions and a general obscurity. This can also be explained by the fact that several trends and schools coexist within the discipline itself. This essay clarifies the basic definitions and introduces the reader to the four major schools and three less advocated trends. Following this, the author outlines how criminal profiling is applied in Hungary.
