Aims and Scope

About the Journal

Belügyi Szemle/Academic Journal of Internal Affairs (AJIA) is a monthly peer-reviewed flagship academic publication (print ISSN 2062-9494 and online ISSN 2677-1632). As an independent, Hungarian- and English-language journal, we aim to actively speak to the most consequential conversations in legal, administrative, public safety, law enforcement and security issues in Hungary and internationally.

We encourage submissions from researchers, educators, and policymakers from around the world in multidisciplinary academic fields, including Hungarian and international comparative higher education, law and government, public administration, economics, global studies, law enforcement and security studies, psychology, criminology, sociology, linguistics, and social work.

We prioritize submissions that mark a new and demonstratively significant advancement on under-researched aspects of the field and regions, countries, contexts, or populations about which little is known. We prioritize multi-authored scholarship that spans socially constructed boundaries and borders, and scholarship that draws on under-utilized theories, methodologies, and frameworks.

We consider submissions that include "Research Articles", "Research Abstracts", "Book Reviews" and "Reviews" that employ quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods research designs with robust data collection and rigorous data analysis. We consider quantitative submissions with strong research designs and theoretical frameworks, including longitudinal, multilevel, path, network, and spatial data analyses. Descriptive research, program evaluations, literature reviews, survey research, institutional research, and/or research with small sample sizes are unlikely to be considered. We consider qualitative submissions that use critical, emerging, or more traditional genres of qualitative or post-qualitative research. Qualitative submissions must include conceptual frameworks grounded in the theoretical and empirical literature, and authors are encouraged to reflect on researcher positionalities.

Publish With Us: The aim of Belügyi Szemle/Academic Journal of Internal Affairs (AJIA) is to publish the most valuable research written by the Hungarian and international academic community for its multidisciplinary audience.

High ranking: Research submitted for publication is subject to rigorous peer review in a high-quality journal with international development potential.

Worldwide representation: More than 1500 scholars from 25 countries have submitted and published articles in the journal. In view of the disciplines represented and our professional specificities, our articles are mainly written by Hungarian experts, but due to the international opening of the last decade, we have also been honoured with articles by European authors. The development of our scientific and professional network is reflected in the fact that experts from Asia and the USA also support the work of our Editorial Committee with their valuable opinions and scientific results.

Ensuring bilingualism: The journal is published monthly in two languages (Hungarian and English). We consider it a fundamental value to publish in Hungarian. However, in order to achieve significant results in the international scientific arena and to ensure that the professional and scientific ideas of our authors reach non-Hungarian-speaking readers without any limitations, two of the six Hungarian-language publications published each month are also published in English, taking into account international scientific values.

„Online First” publishing: We aim to provide initial decisions within 90 days from new manuscript submission and publish accepted manuscripts in 'Online First' format within 60 days after acceptance.

Global exposure: The combination of ranking, open-access, and indexing in all major academic databases increases the discoverability and citation of your work.
