Local radios in emergency situtaitons

Abstract

During an emergency situation, broadcast radio is the most flexible, and most accessible medium; in local emergency, local radio has a major role, since. During early stages of an emergency, the radio station and the authorities need to cooperate in informing the public concerned; later local radio has a role in the rehabilitation process. This author presents examples on how radio works in emergency, including the temporary community station that was on the air in the Ajka–Devecser area after the industrial catastrophe in 2010.
