Abstract
The author provides a description and analysis of the investigation of the kidnapping and killing of Jakob Metzler, the son of a Bank owner in Germany, in September, 2002, where one of the defendants was threatened with torture during the interrogation – a practice the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights declared to amount to torture and inhuman treatment, and a violation of the right to fair trial.
