Abstract
This paper examines the selection system of the Police of the Republic of Cyprus. Using the attributes of the Hungarian-model, it presents the general organizational and educational characteristics, stronger the process of recruitment, the personal and the qualification criteria, furthermore the eligibility requirements. The research was performed by collecting and analyzing the English open sources and the relevant literature, and further a structured interview was applied. Previously, this topic was not addressed in Hungary, therefore the paper
can be considered as knowledge-expanding and suppletory. The conclusion is that the Police of the Republic of Cyprus, – similar to other European countries studied (Ireland, England and Wales, Northern-Ireland, Scotland, the Czech Republic, Malta, Poland and Slovenia) – structures the police selection system on similar principles taking territorial particularities into account.
