Abstract
Aim: The aim of my present study is to point out the relationships and connection points that can be identified between sexual motivation and serial crime offending. According to the spectrum approach, sexual motivation can be normative, abnormative, and pathological, which manifests itself in different behavioral manifestations. The same spectrum approach can also be traced in the framework of interpretation of pathological paraphilic disorders, differentiating between mild, moderate and severe paraphilic tendencies. In many cases, sexual motivation was a behavior influencing and encouraging the commission of a violent crime, but it cannot be generalized. At the same time, it can also be seen that these types of offenders are typically serial offenders, that is, they usually commit crimes more than once. My goal is also to point out the developmental pathway these serial offenders follow before committing this type of violent crime.
Methodology: Through a literature review and case report, I intend to present the general system of sexual motivation and its effect in relation to the commission of violent crimes against people.
Findings: Examining the question of sexual motivation is much more relevant to violent crime than we might think at first. At the same time, it should also be emphasized that the presence of the sexual aspect in many cases allows us to infer another mental disorder or maladaptive scheme, which are also characteristics of the offender's personality structure. It should also be emphasized that sexual deviance in itself does not predispose to committing a crime; examining this phenomenon definitely requires a multidisciplinary approach.
Value: Through hungarian and international cases, it is shown how sexual motivation, including deviant and pathological sexual behavior, is connected to the commission of violent crimes. Although the exploration of the phenomenon summarizes only the main nodes, it lays the foundation for further empirical research that may be relevant from the point of view of the topic.
